When syncing many files or folders in the Drive desktop app, you can check the current progress of the sync.
The sync list may only display some items, but by checking the number of items currently being processed in the sync status area of the tray window, you can more easily understand the overall progress of the sync.
How to check sync status
- Click
in the macOS menu bar.
- When the tray window is displayed, check the sync status display area of the tray window.
- If syncing is in progress, the sync status display area will show the number of items currently being processed in the format 'N items in progress'.
- To stop the sync, click 'Sync stopped'.
Display by sync status
| Status | Description |

| Preparing to sync | Checking sync targets and therefore not yet able to display the number of items being processed. Even in this state, 'Stop' can be used. |
| Sync in progress | Actual sync is in progress. The number of items currently syncing or pending is displayed as 'N items in progress'. |
| Stop | The user has stopped the sync. In this state, the number of items being processed is not displayed. |
| Up to date. | All syncs are complete. The number of items being processed is not displayed. If any items failed to sync, they may be displayed separately. |
How the number of items being synced is counted
The number displayed as 'N items in progress' is the total number of items currently syncing and items waiting to sync.
Items that have completed synchronization are excluded from the count of items being processed, regardless of whether they synced successfully or failed. For example, if 1 out of a total of 5 items has been synced, 2 are syncing, and 2 are pending, the tray window will display '4 items in progress'.
If new files are added or existing files are modified during synchronization, increasing the number of items to be synced, those items may also be included in the count of items being processed.
Note
- The number of items currently being synced is updated in real-time.
- If a sync is stopped and then restarted, it is considered a new sync task, and the count of items being processed may be recalculated.
